Jasper is a type of microcrystalline chalcedony, featuring crystals too small to be seen with the naked eye. Distinguished from minerals by its impurities, quartz, and/or chalcedony, Jasper is often opaque, with visible iron oxides (hematite) introducing reds and goethite yellows and browns. Chlorite impurities can lend green hues. Jasper is known for its unique colours and patterns, exhibiting a variety of colours (blue being rare). Shades of red, yellow, and brown are predominant, creating captivating, non-uniform overlaps and merging.
